A unique combination of history, architecture, and entertainment

Calendar autumn has arrived, but the velvet season continues in the Kaliningrad region. Warm air, bright autumn landscapes, extraordinary architecture, and a variety of world cuisine attract many tourists here. The architectural heritage of the region is especially valued and is one of the main reasons why people from all over the world strive to visit Kaliningrad. Local residents, in turn, enjoy exploring new sights, taking every opportunity to visit places like Nesselbek Castle.

History of Nesselbek Castle

Nesselbek Castle is a medieval knight’s castle recreated according to ancient drawings of the Teutonic Order. It is located near Kaliningrad, in the village of Orlovka, on the way to the sea. The castle is easily accessible by public transport: buses No. 114 and No. 116 are suitable. However, for guests of the city, this option is not always convenient, as buses run on schedule, and it’s not always desirable to adjust to public transport. Walking to Nesselbek is also not an option, as the distance from the city is quite significant. The best solution would be to travel to the castle by car—this provides freedom of movement and comfort. If you’re traveling in Kaliningrad without your own vehicle, renting a car from our park will be the ideal option. This will allow you to reach the castle at a convenient time without any hassle.

There is a spacious parking lot near the castle, which also makes the visit easier for car lovers. On this sunny day, I decided to enjoy the beauty of the castle and once again experience its grandeur.

Architecture and atmosphere of the castle

The castle itself makes an incredible impression thanks to its faithful adherence to medieval designs. Within its walls, you can feel not only like a guest but also a hero of medieval legends. The castle includes a luxurious hotel furnished in the style of that era. Spacious rooms with canopy beds, located in the towers, give you the opportunity to feel like a princess or knight.

The castle’s spa complex offers visitors a variety of unique treatments that add even more magic to this medieval world. Among the offerings are luxurious procedures like a champagne bath for lovers, a beer jacuzzi, Cleopatra’s bath with honey and milk, as well as beer grain wraps. It’s a place where everyone can find something to their liking and completely relax in the atmosphere of the past.

Restaurant and entertainment

The heart of the castle is its magnificent restaurant. The interior is striking in its atmosphere and grandeur: every element of the design reminds you of knightly times, and the waiters and bartenders are dressed in costumes from that era. Guests are offered the opportunity not only to taste medieval cuisine but also to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of that time by trying on costumes of princesses or knights. It’s not just dinner—it’s a whole adventure!

By the way, Nesselbek Castle also has its own brewery, where you can taste aromatic beer and kvass of local production. This adds a special touch to your visit, especially if you appreciate quality beverages.

There is plenty of entertainment here: a horse stunt show, archery, horse riding, and a bird courtyard. However, one of the most thrilling parts of the tour for me was the Museum of the Inquisition, located in one of the castle towers.

Inquisition Museum: Dark pages of history

The Inquisition Museum in Nesselbek Castle is a collection of torture and punishment devices used in medieval Europe. The museum’s collection clearly demonstrates the cruelty of medieval justice. One of the exhibits that caught my attention was the “Head Press.” The description of the device makes you shudder: the victim was placed on a special support, and a metal arc pressed on the upper part of the head, gradually crushing the tissues. This is just one of many examples of how hard life was for people in those times.

The museum’s exhibition evoked mixed feelings in me: from fear to curiosity. The atmosphere was enhanced by background music, and the tour up the tower staircase allowed me to fully immerse myself in this unusual place.

Conclusion

Visiting Nesselbek Castle is not just a trip to a historical site; it’s a real journey through time that leaves a lasting impression. The architecture, rich entertainment program, exquisite cuisine, and unique spa treatments make it a must-visit destination. This castle gives you the opportunity to feel part of medieval history, to plunge into the atmosphere of knightly times, and to spend unforgettable days surrounded by majestic architecture.

Whether you come in your own car or use a rental car, a visit to the castle will be a highlight of your trip around Kaliningrad. Next time, I’ll definitely stay here overnight to fully experience the magic of this place, but that will be another story.
